Middle School Principal
Dear Parents,
Choosing the right school to reveal your child's strengths is perhaps one of the most important decisions you make in your life. The primary school period is when the most important foundations that will prepare your children for life are laid. The primary school you will prefer should be a school that instils confidence in you thanks to its institutional structure, has a strong staff structure comprised of teachers and experts and has an educational understanding which fully accomplishes its vision and mission.
At Büyük Kolej, an internationally accredited school, we believe that successful education is only possible when children are inspired by their families and teachers. Education starts in the family before nurturing and growing at school. Responsible adult role modeling that supports student achievement and promotes emotional intelligence is possible through family members at home and teachers at school. At the K-12 level of education and in the process of preparing individuals equipped for today's multicultural and increasingly-globalized society, our school offers students educational environments and a rich curriculum as well as social activities, all up to international standards.
Our school is a contemporary and dynamic institution that allows students to take intensive course hours to be able to use English as well as a second foreign language effectively alongside their mother tongue and teaches languages within their cultural and social context. Our training program features an inquiry approach that harmonizes students' interests and abilities with what they have learned, thus enriching their innate curiosity and encouraging their love for learning. This approach is effective and important in the development of the 21stcentury skills that lead our students to success in personal and business life. Our teaching staff consists of administrators and teachers with international experience, talent and motivation.
Our team meticulously models the targeted student profile, taking into account individual differences and different learning styles, and instils these profiles in the student's thoughts and behaviors. A strong sense of common purpose has a place in our learning community. It increases our motivation and success and enables us to achieve our goals.
Esteemed Parents, Dear Students,
As a member of Büyük Kolej Family, I would like to thank you for your interest and trust in our school and I wish you huge success to be attained together.
Kind regards,
Arzu GÜR

Introduction
A Multilingual, Student-Centered System
Büyük Kolej Middle School Program is an entirely student-centered program. In addition to basic courses instructed within a scientific approach, the aim is to enable students to develop their knowledge and skills by using their English and Second Foreign Language knowledge accumulated since pre-school, express themselves correctly and effectively in both their mother tongue and foreign languages, gain a global perspective, acquire environmental awareness and maintain their academic and social development.
Training events supported by projects such as Mind Games, Destination Imagination and Maths Olympics as well as club efforts, social and cultural trips and artistic and sporting activities are carried out in addition to the curriculum of the Ministry of National Education for students to grow up as individuals who think independently and know and understand not only their own environment and culture but also the world and different cultures.
The Tree Planting Event
The Tree Planting Event, which is attended by preschool students, is concluded with a trip to the Great College Memorial Forest for planting the saplings purchased as a result of the annual campaign. During the trip, students know the trees, learn to plant trees and meet the first seedlings with the soil.
SECONDARY SCHOOL MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION
Two department exams are held each semester at 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. For Visual Arts, Music and Physical Education courses, students are given grades for their work process and their products.
Teachers apply exams to students by taking into consideration the general principles of measurement and evaluation and the general objectives and achievements in the curriculum of courses. They also instruct work to determine students' projects and performance.
Exams and performances of each student are evaluated over a scale of 100 full points. Teachers record the evaluation results in points in their transcripts.
The end of year score for a course is the arithmetic mean of the first and second semester scores. When calculating the arithmetic mean for semester scores, the division is performed up to two decimal places. When calculating the end of year grade, decimals equal to or greater than .5000 are rounded to the nearest whole number.
On the condition that the mean at each grade of middle school is no less than 55.00 for Turkish course and 45.00 for any other course, those students with a weighted average score 70.00 to 84.99 for all courses are awarded a "Certificate of Achievement" while the students with a weighted average score of 85.00 or above are awarded a "Certificate of High Achievement".
Regardless of course-based achievement, students who
a) rank in the top five in national and international competitions, and
b) attain an outstanding achievement in various social, cultural and artistic activities are awarded a "Certificate of Honor".
c) The Certificate of Honor is awarded by the committee on assessing student behaviors.
All information concerning school life is published on the school website. It is important that the attendance and grades of students are regularly monitored over the e-school parent information system without waiting for a school report at the end of the semester.
Measurement and Evaluation Tools
Project: It is a long-term performance task with a broad range of contents. Since it is a comprehensive and long-term study, the teacher runs a process evaluation at regular intervals and makes suggestions.
Assessment of Participation in Course Activities: An assessment is performed in consideration of certain criteria including but not limited to active participation in teaching activities, asking questions, practicing, filling in worksheets, submitting own opinions during discussions, fulfilling responsibilities, sharing knowledge and findings, and completing the given task willingly and on time. Evaluation rubrics are created for each department.
Student Admission and Scholarship Exams: They are applied to prospective students who aim to study at our school. The readiness levels of students are reviewed before making decisions on the process of enrollment and scholarship of prospective students.
Readiness Practice: It determines what our students remember from the previous academic year before the start of the new academic year. The new academic year begins by recapping the subjects from the previous year.
Department Exams: They are applied on the basis of evaluation and grading of student achievement on the dates determined at the beginning of each academic year in accordance with regulations.
Mid-term and Final Assessment: Mid-term and end-of-term assessment exams are applied to reveal the development process of our students. In addition, our students are encouraged to take general exams with wide participation in order to see their place among students of other schools.
Cambridge Exam: We take CAMBRIDGE exams in order to determine the language skills of our students through international exams. In addition, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders take the Esol Cambridge Exams speaking tests twice a year. Furthermore, primary school students take Starters and Movers speaking tests twice a year.
